FAQ's
Why the name Commonhealth?
Great question! The name is both a nod to our home in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and a reflection of our philosophy of care.
At Commonhealth, we believe health is something shared—built through relationships, community, and collaboration. That includes the therapeutic relationship itself—a space where clinician and client work together with openness, respect, and shared purpose.
We also coordinate closely with clients’ other providers, such as psychiatrists, primary care physicians, nutritionists, and more—as well as with family members and partners, toward one common goal: caring for the whole person within the context of their life and relationships.
Do you offer sessions in person or virtually?
We offer both in-person and virtual sessions. In-person sessions are held at our offices in Center City, Philadelphia (Dr. Salerno) and the suburbs of Philadelphia in Broomall (Dr. Mullen).
We offer online therapy in 42 states through The Psychology Interjurisdictional Compact (PSYPACT), including New Jersey and Delaware.
What treatment approaches do you use?
Dr. Salerno specializes in evidence-based, exposure-based therapies, including Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) therapy for OCD and Prolonged Exposure (PE) therapy for trauma. Her work is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and other gold-standard methods for anxiety and related conditions.
Dr. Mullen specializes in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and other process-based approaches that focus on sustainable change and personal growth. His work emphasizes helping clients live with greater clarity, flexibility, and purpose through mindfulness, values-based action, and integration of mind and body.
At Commonhealth, our philosophy extends beyond symptom management. We treat the whole person—considering the full range of factors that shape wellbeing, including sleep, nutrition, physical activity, relationships, and community connection. We believe healing grows through engagement, not isolation, and that meaningful relationships and shared purpose are central to lasting health.
How long are sessions?
Sessions are typically 50 to 60 minutes long. We also offer 90 minute sessions. Session length is mutually agreed upon and based on client needs and circumstances.
Do you accept my insurance?
We are an out-of-network provider, but many commercial health plans offer substantial reimbursement for licensed clinicians and professional psychological services like ours. Commonhealth provides a coded receipt called a superbill that clients can submit to their insurance company for out-of-network reimbursement.
We also offer a limited number of sliding-scale options based on clinician, session length, and individual financial circumstances. Our goal is to make high-quality, evidence-based care as accessible as possible while maintaining the flexibility needed to provide truly individualized treatment.
What are your fees?
Standard 60-minute therapy sessions range from $150–$200, depending on the clinician, session length, and type of service. 90-minute initial evaluation sessions are often recommended at the start of care and billed at a higher rate, though they are not required to begin care. Fees may also vary for extended sessions, family consultations, or specialized assessments.
A limited number of sliding-scale appointments are available based on financial need and clinician availability.
