For the people holding it together for everyone else.

Caregiving is one of the most demanding roles a person can take on, and one of the least visible. Whether you are supporting a partner through a serious illness, a parent through cognitive decline, or a child with complex needs, the physical, emotional, and logistical load builds quietly. Over time it can leave you depleted, isolated, and unlike yourself.

Meet Dr. Rachel Allen

Dr. Rachel Allen specializes in the intersection of mental and physical health. Her training includes a postdoctoral fellowship in Behavioral Medicine at Cooper University Healthcare and years of integrated care at the Department of Veterans Affairs, where she supported patients navigating chronic illness, pain, and the psychological weight of medical experiences.

Her approach draws from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Pain Reprocessing Therapy, and somatic and mindfulness-based interventions. Sessions are practical, collaborative, and grounded in a deep working knowledge of the mind-body connection.

What caregiver-focused therapy looks like

Our work with caregivers is practical and honest. The goal is not to eliminate the stress of caregiving. It is to build the capacity, structure, and self-understanding to keep going without losing yourself in the process.

Depending on where you are, sessions may focus on:

  • Managing acute stress, anticipatory grief, and emotional exhaustion
  • Protecting your own health, sleep, and energy in a role that constantly asks for more
  • Navigating family dynamics, role shifts, and difficult decision-making
  • Making room for the ambivalence, resentment, guilt, and love that often exist at the same time
  • Building sustainable care that accounts for your life alongside theirs

Why it works

Most caregivers come to therapy after months or years of pushing through. The issue is rarely a lack of resilience. It is a lack of anywhere to be honest about how hard it is. Structured, evidence-based therapy gives you a place to set the load down, name what is actually happening, and build a way forward that does not require you to disappear.

Dr. Salerno helped give me strength, courage, and a better sense of my self worth. She made me feel cared for and supported. She has truly changed my and my children’s lives for the better!

I was in a tenuous situation. Dr. Mullen got behind me in my corner and egged me on to just put one positive foot in front of the other and find myself on the other side. Currently, two years later and I’m stronger everyday.
