Online Therapy in 40+ States
We work with clients in 40+ states through secure online therapy, and also offer in-person care at our two Philadelphia-area locations.

The conversation about substance use is often stuck between two extremes: everything is fine, or you have a disease and need rehab. Most people who come to therapy about their use fit neither. They are functioning, often successful, and know that something about their relationship with alcohol, cannabis, cocaine, benzodiazepines, or another substance is not quite right, but they are not sure what it means or what to do about it.
We meet people where they actually are.
Meet Dr. Pat Mullen
Dr. Pat Mullen specializes in the treatment of co-occurring substance use and mental health concerns. His approach draws from Motivational Interviewing (MI), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and mindfulness-based interventions.
He has spent his career at the intersection of substance use and clinical care, and brings a direct, non-judgmental style that many clients have described as refreshing and effective.
Our approach is grounded in the evidence base for outpatient substance use treatment. Depending on where you are, work may focus on:
The goal is not to enforce a particular outcome. It is to help you get honest, get clear, and build a path forward that reflects what you actually want.
Most people who struggle with substance use have already tried to change on their own. What they often have not had is a clinical relationship where they can be fully honest about their use without being pushed toward a predetermined answer, and where the co-occurring issues that drive use, anxiety, trauma, ADHD, depression, chronic stress, are treated at the same time.

Dr. Salerno helped give me strength, courage, and a better sense of my self worth. She made me feel cared for and supported. She has truly changed my and my children’s lives for the better!
I was in a tenuous situation. Dr. Mullen got behind me in my corner and egged me on to just put one positive foot in front of the other and find myself on the other side. Currently, two years later and I’m stronger everyday.
